Frequently Asked Questions

What areas do you cover?

I’m based in Faversham and work for clients across Kent. The towns of Sittingbourne, Canterbury, Chatham, Ashford, Maidstone and Margate are all accessible within 30 minutes. Where needed, I can support clients remotely independent of location.

What locations do you work from?

Because I use cloud-based bookkeeping software I can work remotely at my home office or on-site depending on your needs.

When I’m bookkeeping for a retail store we find it helpful for me to visit the premises fortnightly so my client can immediately answers any queries I have and the paperwork is stored there.

For a client who works in the services sector I work remotely uploading and processing all the information into the cloud accounting software each month. We meet at their site each quarter to complete the VAT return.

When I’ve trained clients to use Xero  and Quickbooks we’ve used a combination of my home office and their premises.

What are your working hours?

My usual working week is Mon-Thurs 9-3pm. Outside of these times I am available by email and try and answer emails within 48 hours (this may be longer during school holidays). Evening and weekend appointments can be organised where needed.

How are you licensed?

I obtained my bookkeeping qualifications through the Institute of Certified Bookkeeping. My on-going ICB membership gives me a current practice license and binds me to their professional conduct regulations and continuous professional development requirements. As part of this I am supervised to work as a bookkeeper under Money Laundering Regulations. I hold appropriate insurance for my business size.

How do you charge for your services?

I aim to provide a cost effective, high quality service with transparent billing for my clients. The prices that I charge reflect my qualifications, experience, accreditation and the costs of running my own business. These rates will be discussed at our initial meeting.

Initially I charge an hourly rate for bookkeeping but once we’ve established an on-going relationship I move to set monthly costs for the services provided over the year. Fixed monthly pricing has the advantage of allowing us both to budget effectively across the year and avoid peaks and troughs.  I don’t have a minimum number of bookkeeping hours per month and my notice period is one month.

For bookkeeping training I usually charge an hourly rate so you only pay me for the training that you need.  Self-assessment tax returns and payroll charges vary depending on the work involved.

I have a price range for analytics services as the amount of work required varies significantly.

Do I still need to use an accountant?

I am qualified to provide general bookkeeping , VAT returns, self-assessment tax returns and payroll for all types of companies without an accountant being required.

I am not qualified to produce a final set of accounts for limited companies. When I’m bookkeeping for limited companies I supply all the information to their accountants so they can prepare the accounts.

Why did you choose Cloud-based software?

There is a huge variety of innovative cloud-based software products on the market. The accounts software companies have invested in the latest technology available to make them much more user friendly, save you time, built direct bank feeds, launched mobile versions and built integrations with many other useful pieces of other software The two main products that I use most often are Xero and Quickbooks.  Both work very effectively and are well respected by accounting firms.  I also use Clearbooks software.
